Bear Hotel
On the outskirts of Cardiff, The Bear Hotel is situated in the picturesque market town of Cowbridge, an ideal base for a golf break to Wales.
The historic Bear Hotel dates back to the 12th century, boasting individually decorated bedrooms, some with beamed ceilings or four-poster beds. All rooms have en suite facilities, with Freeview TV and free Wi-Fi internet access.
Guests will enjoy the flagstone real ale bar and luxurious lounge bar, offering drinks, snacks and afternoon tea. The hotel boasts a charming restaurant, serving an excellent menu, with local produce.
The Bear Hotel is also 15 minutes away from Cardiff city centre and the Cardiff Bay development.

Royal Porthcawl
The first name on any Wales Golf Break. Ranked in most peoples top 10 courses, Royal Porthcawl will provide even the most established player with lasting memories… some for the right reason and some not!
The first 3 holes are contoured against Rest Bay and are open to the prevailing westerly winds. Although there is some respite on the par 5’s you will come away from “The Royal” with a very good card indeed if you have played to your handicap.
Royal Porthcawl Golf Club features no trees nor water but much gorse and many a typical links pot bunker. The 18th takes you toward the sea, sunset and treasured memories.
The venue to 5 amateur championships, the 1995 Walker Cup between USA and GB/Ireland (Tiger Woods played), and 3 Senior Opens.
Southerndown
Bracken to the left of you, bracken to the right and fairway rising up to the sky! Henry Cotton described this 1st hole as one of the most difficult he had encountered.
A great addition to any Wales golf break, Southerndown Golf Course is quite unique. Nature has crafted an unusual ‘limestone-heath’ on which the course sits. The overlying soil supports acid-loving heathland vegetation such as heather, bracken and gorse; and the westerly winds have deposited centuries of sand to give the front eight holes a springy, links-style character.
The original course architects with a unique tableau on which to work. Willie Fernie, Herbert Fowler, Willie Park, Harry Colt and Donald Steel – some great names in golf course design – have all played their part over the years in creating Southerndown as we know it today
The course was a Senior Open Qualifier Course in 2017 and the tough finish with multi level and undulating fairways makes this a great test of golf.
Pyle & Kenfig
A must play on any links golf break to Wales. Pyle and Kenfig Golf Course is affectionately known as ‘P & K’.
Lofty sand dunes hug the coast of Porthcawl. This undulating course has natural hazards of hillocks, valleys and towering dunes. However serious the game, time must be made to appreciate the panoramic views.
Unusually for a links course, Pyle and Kenfig is laid out in two loops of nine. The original front nine is where to make a score because the back nine is a very stiff test, especially when the wind is up.
The 11th hole, a 525-yard par five known as the Valley Hole, is where the dunes come in to play – from here on in, it’s sheer entertainment. This will test the mettle of the very best golfers.
